Making a difference in the world starts right where you live.

Healthy communities don't just "happen"—all citizens must work together to ensure that adequate food, water, shelter, clothing and medical care are available to all, and that people are able to exercise choice, spend time with friends and family, and have meaning in their lives.

Families who struggle with substance abuse, domestic violence, mental illness, or other crises drain a community of its resources they may have difficulty maintaining employment, require greater medical care, or require police intervention. As part of a "vicious cycle," the young people who grow up in these families are often doomed to repeat the pattern in their own adult lives.

YFES believes that everyone deserves the chance to be healthy and strong, no matter what challenges life has handed to them. Our programs help people to find internal strengths they didn't know they have, and use them to change their lives for the better by:

  • breaking the cycles of substance abuse and violence
  • keeping children in safe, supportive homes
  • helping young people without families learn independence
  • helping individuals and families to learn coping and communication skills
  • connecting people with community resources

Please join us in helping individuals and families to overcome their challenges, and take an important step in making your community healthy and strong. By making a donation to YFES, you are investing in your community, for both now and the future.
